Refrigerated containers, also known as reefer containers, are shipping containers that are equipped with a refrigeration unit to maintain a specific temperature for the transport of temperature-sensitive cargo. The refrigeration unit is powered by an electrical supply, which is connected to the unit inside the container. The unit is designed to fit within the standard dimensions of an ISO container, so that it can be easily transported on container ships and handled using the same equipment as standard containers. The ability to maintain a specific temperature during transport makes refrigerated containers ideal for the transport of perishable goods, such as fruits, vegetables, and meats.
What is the use of Refrigerated (Reefer) container?
When a refrigerated container is moved by road, a power generator is connected to the trailer carrying the container to provide the necessary electricity to run the refrigeration unit. Refrigerated containers are capable of maintaining temperatures within a range of 25 degrees Celsius, plus or minus, but special super-freeze reefers are also available for transporting goods that need to be kept frozen at temperatures as low as -60 degrees Celsius. The temperature display on the outside of the refrigeration unit allows for easy monitoring of the unit's operation.
