Introduction
In the examples on this page we talk about the actual weight, tarra weight and chargeable weight:
- Net weight: The scale weight of the physical shipment
- Tare weight is the weight of the equipment (ULD) (in these examples is this the LD-3 with IATA Code: AKE)
- Gross weight: Net weight + Tare weight
- Actual weight: The weight of the shipment that is published as actual weight on the Air Waybill. If this concerns a shipper-built unit, the weight of the ULD is included.
- Chargeable weight: The weight on the Air Waybill that will be used for the price calculation. This is either the actual weight or the volume weight, depending on which of the two is higher.
- Pivot weight: Weight set by the airline, which represents the minimum chargeable weight for a ULD. If the actual weight exceeds this set weight, the forwarder will be charged for the excessive weight.
LD-3 specifications
ULD TYPE | IATA Code | Tare Weight | Maximum Gross Weight |
---|---|---|---|
LD-3 | AKE | 70 - 170 kg | 1.588 kg |
Example 1.
Net weight | 800 KG |
Tare weight (LD-3(AKE)) | 70 KG |
Gross / actual weight | 870 KG |
Pivot weight | 1000 KG |
Chargeable weight | 1000 KG |
In this example is the pivot weight higher then the gross /actual weight, so the pivot weight is equal to the chargeable weight.
Example 2.
Net weight | 970 KG |
Tare weight (LD-3(AKE)) | 70 KG |
Gross / actual weight | 1040 KG |
Pivot weight | 1000 KG |
Chargeable weight | 1040 KG |
In this example is the pivot weight lower then the gross /actual weight, so the gross /actual weight is equal to the chargeable weight.
Pivot Rates
Pivot Rate or Under Pivot Rate The minimum rate based on the pivot weight of the ULD, which is linked to the pivot weight.
Example
Port of Loading | Port of Discharge | ULD TYPE | IATA Code | Pivot Rate / Kg | Pivot Rate | Pivot Weight | Actual Weight | Calculation | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Amsterdam | Singapore | LD-3 | AKE | €1,20 | €1.200 | 1000 kg | 870 kg | 1000 kg | x | €1,20 | = | €1.200 |
Over Pivot Rate The rate used when the actual weight exceeds the pivot weight. This rate will be calculated per excessive KG.
Example
Port of Loading | Port of Discharge | ULD TYPE | IATA Code | Pivot Rate | Pivot Weight | Actual Weight | Over Pivot Rate | Pivot rate | Over pivot rate | Rate price | ||||
Amsterdam | Singapore | LD-3 | AKE | €1200,- | 1000 kg | 1040 kg | €1,25 per kg | €1.200,- | + | 40 kg | x | €1,25 | = | €1.232,- |
Rate per Unit
Flat Rate] Flat rate is a tariff per unit (kg).
Example
Port of Loading | Port of Discharge | Per kg |
Amsterdam | Singapore | €1,25 |
Minimum Rate The Minimum Rate is the minimum tariff. possible in combination with a Flat Rate.
Example
Port of Loading | Port of Discharge | Minimum | Per kg |
Amsterdam | Singapore | €1500,- | €1,25 |
ULD Flat Rate
ULD Flat Rate is a tariff per unit (kg) over the Chargeable Weight, specially for pre built ULD's. This is usually combined with a minimum Chargeable Weight.
Maximum Gross Weight
Maximum Gross Weight is the maximum what a ULD is allowed to weigh including the cargo. This varies per ULD.
