Fragile goods are often marked with a “shock watch” or “tip n tell” label to indicate that they require special handling during transportation. These labels contain a liquid or beads that will break or leak if the shipment is mishandled, indicating that the cargo has been damaged. This can be used as evidence in a claim against the handling company if the cargo was accepted at the reception door in good condition but was damaged during transportation. The use of these labels helps to ensure that the handling company is aware of the fragility of the cargo and takes appropriate measures to prevent damage.
Below are the various additional ‘Handling Labels’ commonly found on ‘Special Loads’. These handling labels will predominantly be displayed on Dangerous Goods packages.

Note: The labels depicting arrows that are shown above are known as package orientation labels, and they are used to indicate the proper orientation of a package containing liquid dangerous goods. These labels must be affixed to opposite sides of the package, and the arrows on the labels should point in the direction that the package should be kept when it is being transported. The words “THIS END UP” or “THIS SIDE UP” may also be displayed on the top of the package to provide additional information about the proper orientation of the package. These labels are typically red or black. The use of package orientation labels is important because it helps to ensure that the liquid dangerous goods are transported in the correct orientation, which can prevent spills and accidents.
