Free Out

Free Out (FO) is a term that is used in international ocean freight shipping. It refers to the responsibility for the cost of unloading cargo from a vessel at the destination.

If a shipment is marked as FO, it means that the consignee (the recipient) is responsible for the cost of unloading the cargo from the vessel. This is in contrast to Free In (FI), where the cost of loading the cargo onto the vessel is the responsibility of the shipper.

In international shipping, the term “free” is used to mean "not included." Therefore, when a shipment is marked as FO, it indicates that the cost of unloading the cargo from the vessel is not included in the overall shipping costs. The consignee will be responsible for paying this cost separately.
