Shipping Phases

These are the general phases of the cargo transportation, depending on the mode of transportation, the routes and the type of cargo, some other charges may be applied, or some phases may vary. It's important for exporters and importers to be aware of these different phases and the associated charges, so they can plan and budget accordingly.

Here under you can see the 7 phases that are being used.

  1. Pick-up – The pick-up from the goods in the warehouse.
  2. Pre-Carriage – This is the transportation to the Port of Loading and can be done by: Truck, train or barge.
  3. Port of Loading – Place where shipments are loaded and secured aboard a vessel (ship or aircraft).
  4. Carriage – The transportation from Port of Loading to the Port of Discharge.
  5. Port of Discharge – Place where a vessel (ship or aircraft) is off-loaded
  6. On Carriage – This is the transportation to the delivery point and can be done by: Truck, train or barge.
  7. Delivery – Place where the goods arrive by the consignee.
