Consignment

A consignment is a shipment of goods that is transported under the terms of a single bill of lading or air waybill, regardless of the quantity or number of containers, packages, or pieces. A consignment can consist of a single item or multiple items, and it is typically shipped from a sender to a recipient.

The bill of lading or air waybill serves as a contract between the sender and the carrier, and it outlines the terms and conditions of the transportation of the goods. It also serves as a receipt for the goods and provides evidence of ownership.

In the case of a consignment, the sender is often referred to as the consignor, and the recipient is known as the consignee. The consignor is responsible for preparing the goods for shipment and delivering them to the carrier, while the consignee is responsible for receiving the goods and paying any applicable charges.

Consignments are an important part of the logistics industry, as they allow businesses to efficiently transport goods to customers or other locations. They can be used to transport a wide variety of goods, including raw materials, finished products, and other items.
